In 2018 OneCause conducted the first Social Donor research study, examining the unique motivators and giving behaviors of those who give through events and peer-to-peer fundraising.

As we emerge from an extended period of social distancing, we wanted to reexamine these giving experiences to explore how social giving has evolved and lessons learned from virtual fundraising.

We conducted an online survey of 1,026 Social Donors to better understand:

  • What motivates social giving
  • When and how donors will return to in-person events
  • Best practices for improving ease and engagement
  • What influences donor retention and repeat donations
