San Miguel Schools is a nonprofit inner city middle school serving two communities most in need in Chicago - the Back of the Yards Neighborhood, a primarily Mexican immigrant population on the South side and the Austin neighborhood, a predominantly African American population on the West side. We provide private school education at virtually no cost to the student. We accept students based on three criteria: 1) Living in proximity to the school 2) financial need and 3)academic under performance. Students enter our schools at 5th grade at a 2nd or 3rd grade reading and math grade level and graduate in 8thgrade at their grade level or above. San Miguel also continues to follow our students on their journey to high school and college throughout Graduate and Family Support programs. In neighborhoods where it is estimated that only 40% of students graduate from high school, 84% of San Miguel alumni finish high school
