Phoenix - Friesian Glory
Posted by dreamchaser on Jul 14, 2010
It has been just about a month since we took in Phoenix, a completely emaciated Friesian mare with a bag full of milk. We were told the colt was a year old, and was still at the location the mare came from. The people had starved Phoenix and were planning to shoot her, when a concerned man said he would take her and find a place for her. We named her Phoenix, because she will rise from the ashes of starvation and despair, and she will be restored to her former glory in a life filled with love and proper care. Already we see the rising of her spirit as she goes into the round pen and trots with her head held high, and gives little whinnies to the other horses. She spends her nights in the round pen, bedded with grindings, and her days in a covered stall. She is free fed grass hay, and gets alfalfa, senior grain, and bermuda pellets with rice bran. She is perpetually hungry, but now trusts that she will not go hungry here.
