District 200 Students Raise Money in October to Help Abused and Neglected Children in McHenry County Woodstock - This October, Woodstock District 200 schools partnered with CASA of McHenry County to raise funds for the Coins for CASA fundraiser. In one month nearly $2,000 was raised by the ten participating schools. The fundraiser encouraged school children to bring spare change to school to benefit CASA. The purpose was to not only teach these children the value of philanthropy, but allowed them to raise funds to give a voice to their peers. Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA volunteers, are appointed by a judge to advocate in court for children who have been abused or neglected. Volunteers are trained through the CASA office to gather and present factual information to the court as the eyes and ears of the judge. CASA of McHenry County was excited at the opportunity to work with District 200 schools. “The support the schools have shown to CASA for this fundraiser has been heartwarming” says Kelly Pokharel, executive director for CASA, “the schools play such an important role in a child’s life, CASA is grateful to have partnered with the schools to help children.” Are you interested in raising money to help abused and neglected children have a voice? Fill up your own Coins for CASA piggy bank. Banks are available for $10 in the CASA office located at 110 S. Johnson Street, Suite 205, in Woodstock. Once you return the full piggy bank to the CASA office, your $10 will be refunded to you. For more information, please call Kelly at 815-206-4585.
